Mission Hills considers animal feces ordinance
By NICK KOWALCZYK
The Kansas City Star
There's too much animal feces in Mission Hills, some residents and city officials said at Monday's City Council meeting.

The city plans to join most others in Johnson County and adopt an ordinance requiring pet owners to pick up after the animals during walks. Cities that have such an ordinance include Fairway, Leawood, Lenexa, Overland Park, Merriam, Mission, Roeland Park, Shawnee and Westwood Hills.

Councilwoman Jackie Johnson, who lives near Brookwood, called that area "a major poop zone."

Jackie gave $2000 to Dennis Moore and must be a friend of Sebelius – Johnson was the Chair of the 2003 Kansas Inaugural.  Husband Lynn has given $500 to Boyda (against Jim Ryun) and has given to Vratil in 1999 and Biggs in 2002.

Diane Shumaker from Olathe gave $200 to NARAL in 2000.

Alice Liberman is likely “Florence A Liberman” who is on the Mainstream Advisory Board.  She and her husband, George, were name county volunteers of the year in 2003.  (See Mar. 08, 2003 Star article.)

John Gibson (wife Kimberly) was the JoCo Democratic Party Chair in 2002.  He gave $250 to John Dean for President.  He’s an attorney with Chicardi & Bacon.

Kelli Wright is likely the League of Women Voter’s “Off Board” Director, in charge of Voter Serivce (2003).

Marjorie Lee Webb is an 80-year-old Democrat. from Merrian  She gave $50 to Sebelius in 2002.  Possible a past leader in JoCo?

Chris Steineger is KS State Senator District 6 from WyCo.  He gave $1000 to Sebelius in 2002.

Gretchen Gerig is a 71 year-old-Republican from Prairie Village.  I’m not sure why she’s being invited.  Gretchen’s mom, was Gertrude Zimmerman, who died in 1995 in Lawrence.  Her parents ran the Liberal Daily News in Liberal, KS until 1935 and moved to Lawrence and formed the Kansas Color Press, Inc.

Maree Brooks, according to a Google sources is a retired librarian and teacher in Shawnee Mission Schools.  There is a 67-year old Maree Brooks in Ottawa, KS now.

Gloria Giles.  There is a “Republican for Moore” from 2002 in Overland Park with that name.  She lives at the same address as a Deborah Page, who was a Republican for Moore in 2000.  Coincidence?

Rita Clifford is a known ProKan Do contributor.  She also was a “Republican for Moore” in 2002.

John Martellaro, is currently the leader of the Kansas Families United for Public Education (KFUPE) group.  He gave $700 to Howard Dean in the last year or so.  He is a former Kansas City Star writer.  Martellaro is also a “Republican for Moore”. His wife Karen is a “Republican for Moore” and has been described as an environmentalist

Steve Brown.  My guess is this Steve Brown is from Prairie Village and is the chair of the Kansas Democratic Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Caucus, and who is a member of the MAIN*PAC.  Another Steven Brown from Overland Park is an attorney that contributed to Sebelius and Biggs
