The Kansas Meadowlark

The Shame of Kansas

O'Reilly Factor, Nov 6,  2006

Radio Factor, Hour 2George Tiller update. The Factor made headlines this weekend with our reporting on the case of abortion doctor George Tiller. What does his clinic know that it doesn't want the Kansas authorities to know? We'll bring you the latest in the second hour of the Radio Factor.

From Factor Archive:

Factor Follow Up Segment:  More on Dr. George Tiller
Guest: Megan Mosack, WIBW, Topeka

Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline has been investigating abortionist Dr. George Tiller for allegedly failing to report the rapes of very young girls, and for performing late-term abortions merely because a woman is "depressed." But Kline is up for re-election, and his opponent is reportedly benefiting from huge contributions by Dr. Tiller. "We have a late-term abortionist," reported talk radio host Megan Mosack, "who is intent on buying the office of attorney general. He has put hundreds of thousands of dollars into political action committees that send out mailings accusing the Kline of going through women's medical records. It's a compete distortion of the facts." The Factor worried that innocent Kansas citizens will suffer if Phil Kline is defeated. "We don't endorse candidates here, but it would be a colossal mistake. Society must afford some protection for viable babies and children who are raped."

O'Reilly:  "it looks like George Tiller ... is spending a large amount of money in order to get Mr. Morrison elected" Attorney General over current Attorney General Phill Kline.  "That opens up all kinds of questions.

"Joining us now from Topeka is Megan Mosack, a talk radio host on WIBW.  The media in Kansas has not been reporting this story at all.  Particularly, the Kansas City Star and the Wichita Eagle -- both run by McClatchy -- they want Morrison elected.  [they] hate Kline...[they] won't report any of this stuff.  But you found out that Tiller is doing what with his money?"

Mosack:  "...we have a situation here:  a late-term abortionist who is intent on buying the office of Attorney General.  He's put hundreds of thousands of dollars into several different PACs and non-profits, which are acting like PACs.  ...

"They are sending out mailings.  Some Kansans are reporting six mailings. ... They are complete distortions of the truth."

...

O'Reilly:  "How do you know Tiller gave the money?  ..."

Mosack:  "You've got his ProKanDo PAC, which is feeding these other non-profits that just mysteriously popped up in the last few weeks. All  the addresses link back to his ProKanDo Wichita PAC, connected to his abortion clinic."

...

"The majority of Kansans do not share the same values as George Tiller."

...

"Because it's the crown jewel of the Democratic Party -- abortion -- it's not going to be touched"

O'Reilly:  "You. bet ... That's right.  Kansas City Star off the charts. "

See the Snoop Dog page for more information about these six mailings.

Personal Story Segment.  The Factor Archive gives details of the discussion of San Francisco's liberal values and Nancy Pelosi.  But the discussion was also about Kansas and Dr. Tiller.

Liberal:  On the "Left""

Conservative:  On the "right"

O'Reilly:  "You saw the thing that is going on in Kansas.  It's horrifying, and it doesn't seem to be seeping through. Even the people in San Francisco would have to be appalled by this -- not all of them. It's so bad.  Yet, I think people are asleep in this country.  I don't think they know what's on the horizon."

MalkinThey are.  Dr. Tiller has been at this a long, long time. The guy has so much blood on his hands. Finally, you have a state attorney general who is willing to stand up to it and stop all that blood murder.  But, I think, the idea that what San Francisco stands for is only relegated to San Francisco is undermined what's been happening in Kansas ... and what' been tolerated all across this country. .... It's a life and death issue ... not just in Kansas, not just in San Francisco, but across the country."

O'Reilly:  "You hang with a lot of liberal people ... they confide in you.  I can't get my mind around -- we had Amy Richards  ... who basically says, 'I don't care that Tiller is doing this.  Doesn't matter to me.  I don't care if  a 10 year old is raped. I don't want it reported to the authorities.'  How do you arrive at those opinions?"

Powers"I view those as extremist opinions, and those are extreme even among my friends who are very liberal.  And I think some of the things that Amy Richards has said, I find incredibly offensive.  How a person that is a feminist ... would say these things ... is completely beyond me.  You should be looking out to protect women.  To protect girls.  If you think that a girl has been raped, or molested by her father, who better than a feminist to be standing up and trying to protect her.  So, I don't understand this. "

"And I do think that what ends up happening is that people believe the type of stuff you had in the last story.  You were showing all these mailers.  They don't really look into it.  ... They don't ... look deeper.  They don't understand what is going on."

"The media doesn't help.  Not anywhere. When it comes to abortion ... there tends to be one story they tell on abortion, and it's always to err on the side of ... the person performing the abortion is doing the right thing.  The person that got the abortion didn't do anything wrong.  It always errs on that side.  So, they don't dig deeper on this story."

From  The Factor Archive:

Viewers sound off

Many of you sent e-mails about Kansas late-term abortionist Dr. George Tiller. Some excerpts:

Rebecca Decker, New Orleans, LA: "I was depressed for a time during my pregnancy but came out of it. Depression should never be used as a legal 'loophole' for abortion."

Lynn Saunders, Littleton, CO: "Bill, you have become overly emotional on this subject."

Theresa Schoen, Augusta, KS: "I drive past Tiller's office every day. It breaks my heart that babies are being treated worse than animals."

Jack Kirby, Cleburne, TX: "Bill, shame on you for being rude to Amy Richards. You were insulting."

Adam Feldman, Blauvelt, NY: "Bill, I have to admit that I thought you were overly dramatic with this whole 'culture warrior' deal. That is until I heard Amy Richards defending late-term abortions and the failure to turn in men who rape ten-year olds."

Charles Auerbach, Camarillo, CA: "Bill, you nor the government have the right to govern how a woman uses her body."

Bill used this letter from Manhattan, KS to attack the reporting (or should I say, the lack of reporting) by the Kansas City Star and the Wichita Eagle

O'Reilly:  "There's no question The Kansas City Star, and the Wichita paper as well, are against any kind of action against Tiller, and it is disgraceful in my opinion.  McClatchy, which owns both papers, they are shameful."

The Star has been unable to reach O’Reilly. David Tabacoff, executive producer of “The O’Reilly Factor,” issued a statement to The Associated Press: “We stand by our story.”

In 2003, the Kansas City Star, reporters and editorial board, ignored DOZENS of E-mails about Tiller's spending in the 2002 election.  Later, the Star continued to talk about Kline's narrow win in 2002, but REFUSED to explain Kline's main opponent in 2002 was Dr. George Tiller.]
